Welcome to 6th grade math!
The 6th grade math course reinforces mathematical skills taught in fifth grade with additional advanced computation that focuses on the number system, ratios and proportional relationships, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics and probability. Students study greatest common factor, least common multiple, integers, rational numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents. They become more proficient in ratios, unit rates, and converting measurements. Students will also begin to develop the skills necessary to advance to pre-algebra by focusing on solving and graphing equations and computing area and volume. Students will develop and expand problem solving skills in order to solve real word problems, involving measures of center and variability. Daily warm-up review questions using the SMART Response System will be completed and data will be analyzed to target students for Student Support Periods, Interventions, and Enrichment activities.
